Now onto the youngest malt in Arran’s core range. On the nose: Seasalt, citrus, honey and oystersauce/noodles(!?). Quite Delicious though. Oranges and raisins coming through after a while. Water brings out leather, dust and gooseberries. Lovely nose this. On the palate: Salt and citric, sweet and a bit spicy. A little rough in the edges, but… Continue reading

Whisky Review #111 Bulleit Kentucky Straight Bourbon 40%

Time for some American spirit again, this time from the Four Roses distillery. On the nose: Toffee.. no, artificial toffee. Glue, thick maplesyrup, corn on the cob covered in butter, fir, gingerbread, milkchocolate and coconuts. Loads of coconuts actually. Water brings out icing sugar, fructose and ‘vannbakkels’. Some of the gluey and artificial notes disappears as… Continue reading

Whisky Review #112 Laphroaig 7yo ‘Dr.Jekyll’s Expression’ 54.5%

It’s matured 4 years in an ex-bourbon barrel and then another 3 years in a Pedro Ximenez hogshead from warehouse 9. On the nose: Smoky and medicinal. Redwine, dark berries, menthol, winegums, seasalt and… Continue reading

Onto some American stuff again – Eagle Rare is a single barrel whiskey distilled at Buffalo Trace distillery in Kentucky. On the nose I’m getting dark caramel, kind of like burnt sugar. Some almonds, canned tropical fruits – peaches, plums and cloudberries. Vague solvent notes in the background. Water opens it up and adds a touch of… Continue reading

On the nose: Red Licorice, sweet, spicy – chinese five spice, garlic(?) and charred wood. Water makes it creamier on the nose with more nuttyness, honey and caramel. Really a… Continue reading

Whiskyreview #101 Robert Burns Single Malt 40%

Time for another review, this time I’ve had a go at a bottling from Arran distillery that celebrates the scottich poet, Robert Burns. Supposedly he was very fond of whisky.. Anyway, this is a no-age-statment whisky and you can really tell by looking at it, it’s even paler than your avarage white wine. On the nose: Crisp citrus,… Continue reading
